PITTSBURGH CHRISTIAN SCHOOLS | THREES PROGRAM- 8TH GRADE
Values Based Education
My name is Mrs. Southern and I am the 4th through 6th grade math and science teacher at
Greater Works Christian School. I feel blessed to be able to provide your child an education
that is focused on Christ. This is my fourth year at Greater Works. During my first year here, I
was the lead teacher in the 3 year old room. I was the third grade teacher in my second year
and have been the math and science teacher for the upper elementary grades the past 2 years.
I started off by obtaining my Bachelor of Science degree from Slippery Rock University in
Public Administration. After spending several years in the business world, I decided I wanted
a more fulfilling career. I started my graduate work while working full time at Mellon
Financial Corporation. In 2007, I graduated from Duquesne University with my Master of
Science degree in Education, with dual certification in Early Childhood and Elementary
Education. During my student teaching experience, I was awarded a Letter of Excellence from
Duquesne. Upon graduating, I worked for four years as a Pre-K Counts lead teacher in
Braddock. After the birth of our twins, I decided to raise our children and home school them
through their preschool years. Once they reached school age, I decided to go back to work and
have been at Greater Works ever since! During my time here, I was able to complete my Level
II Certification for the state of PA. The small class sizes and focus on faith are the major
reasons why I love teaching at this school. We are losing Christ in education and it is a
blessing to work in an environment where it can be incorporated.
I love spending time with my family, traveling, bike riding, hiking, and reading. My husband
and I are actively involved in our church, Holiday Park United Methodist Church, where I
serve as a member of the Board of Trustees. I also volunteer at our local library and hold a
place on the Library Board as well. Serving our church and community are important parts of
I look forward to working as a team with you in the education of your child!
