Character Education Program

Dear Parent / Guardian,

It is clear that no human being will ever be perfect – other than the Lord Jesus Christ. However, since God’s people reflect God Himself it should be our ultimate goal to be conformed into the highest character, image, and likeness of Jesus Himself. Here at Greater Works Christian School teaching Christ-like Character is of utmost importance. We strive to not only build each child’s mind, but his or her character. Here are the ways in which we endeavor to instill character:

  1. Christ-like Character Traits– Every 3-4 weeks we introduce a new Christ-like character trait and that character trait is displayed on our Character Education bulletin board. (Ex: Serving, Compassion, Kindness)
  2. Character Development Class– Every Monday each class meets together and the character trait is introduced and/or discussed in a fun, creative, and fresh way. We use exciting lessons, videos, and Scripture verses to instill each character trait.
  3. Parent Newsletter– To insure a well rounded character education for each student we ask that each parent / guardian emphasizes the said character trait in the home environment as well. Don’t worry we provide the ideas through our Parent Newsletter! With each new character trait a Parent Newsletter is sent home with each child. The newsletter will introduce the character trait as well as provide you with creative ideas to implement and enhance the family unit.
  4. Character Counts School Store– To ensure our students self esteem and character is being built and encouraged we have introduced our Character Counts School Store. Any time a teacher or faculty member sees a student exhibiting positive character behavior he or she will reward that student with a token. Each token has a point value and can be used to purchase items in the School Store.
  5. Hands-on Character Learning– Another strategic aspect of our character education program is to provide our students with the opportunity to allow what is being communicated to their heads to travel to their hearts. This is done by Hands-on Character Learning outreach opportunities. For instance, if our character trait is serving then we might serve a homeless shelter. If it is kindness, we might send cards to a sick hospitalized child. If it’s patriotism we might send care packages to troops oversees.

As you can see, it is our greatest desire to train, equip and disciple our young people to have Christ-like character.

“And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.”
2 Corinthians 3:18
